We regret to report the death on May 21st 2018 of Laurence David George "Laurie" Reed, one of Surrey’s top middle-distance runners in the 1950’s and 1960’s, at his home in Oxted, just seven hours short of his 82nd birthday. He represented Britain in the 1500 metres at the 1960 Rome Olympics were he finished ninth in his heat in 3:47.9 on the old cinder track. His best 1500 metres time was 3:46.2 at Paddington the same year.
Representing South London Harriers, he was Surrey junior men’s cross country champion in 1957 and finished third in the senior championship two years later. Representing Surrey, he won the CAU Inter-Counties six miles title at White City in 1957 in 28:35.6, his best time for the distance. In 1960, he was third in the AAA three miles championship, also at White City, in 13:38.8. His best mile time was 4:01.8 at Motspur Park also in 1960.
He requested there be no funeral and that not even his close family should attend his cremation. PROFILE.
(24) AUSTIN FOX
We regret to report the death of Austin Fox on 25th May 2018. Austin was the longest-serving member of Croydon Harriers. For many years he was the Clerk of the Course at the Surrey Track & Field Championships. He also used to mark the course for cross-country events held at Croydon including the Surrey County Championships.

Competing in the Diamond League meeting held in Rome on 31st May 2018, Rosie Clarke (Epsom & Ewell Harriers) set a new record of 9:32.08 which was a two hundredths of a second improvement on the previous record which she set in Zagreb, Croatia in August 2017. SURREY RECORDS FOR SENIOR WOMEN.

(33) EUROPEAN UNDER-18 CHAMPIONSHIPS, GYOR, HUNGARY, 5TH - 8TH JULY 2018
The following Surrey athletes were selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland:- Charlotte Alexander (Herne Hill H) - 3000m:- finished 9th in 9:41.18. Marcia Sey (Croydon H) - 100m Hurdles:- 2nd in Heat 2 (13.32/+2.5 Q); 1st in Semi-Final 1 (13.39/+2.7 Q) 7 4th in Final (13.44/+1.0). NB. Both heat & semi-final times were faster than Marcia's Surrey U17 Record of 13.41 but both were wind-assisted. Oscar Heaney Brufal (Blackheath & Bromley) represented Gibraltar in the 400m Hurdles where he finished 5th in Heat 3 (54.65).
(35) IAAF WORLD UNDER-20 CHAMPIONSHIPS, TAMPERE, FINLAND, 10TH - 15TH JULY 2018
The following Surrey athletes were selected to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland:- Chad Miller (Hercules Wimbledon AC) - 100m - 1st in Heat 3 (10.33/+0.5 PB). 3rd in Semi-Final 3 (10.38/+0.1) and did not qualify for Final. 4x100m - Ran 2nd leg in Heat 1 team did not finish. Kristal Awuah (Herne Hill H) - 100m - 1st in Heat 4 (11.35/+1.8 PB). 1st in Semi-Final 3 (11.37/+0.3). 3rd in Final (11.37/0.0). 4x100m - Ran 1st leg in Heat 1 (44.84) to finish 2nd and in the Final (44.05) to finish 3rd. TWO BRONZE MEDALS. Katy-Ann McDonald (Blackheath and Bromley H AC) - 800m - 2nd in Heat 5 (2:07.24). 2nd in Semi-Final 2 (2:03.20 PB). 7th in Final (2:04.08).
(36) ENGLISH SCHOOLS TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS, BIRMINGHAM, 13TH - 14TH JULY 2018
Emmanuel Thomas (Croydon Harriers) representing Surrey won the Senior Boys Pole Vault with a clearance at 4.60m to retain the title he won in 2017.
We have been notified that the winner of the Junior Boys 300m, Amir Sultan-Edwards (Blackheath & Bromley), holds a Surrey County qualification and so his time of 34.81 becomes the new Surrey U15 record which improved the previous record of 35.21 set by Joseph Massimo (Crawley AC) which was achieved at the same meeting in 2014. Amir's time breaks the UK U15 record (held by Joseph Massimo) and is the fastest time recorded by a European U15. George Sudderick (Walton AC) who finished 2nd in 35.12 also broke the previous record. Zoe Tompkins (Herne Hill H) set a new U20 Women 1500m Steeplechase record when she finished 6th in the Senior Girls race in 5:07.07. This improved the previous record of 5:09.2 set by Suzannah Monk (Guildford & Godalming AC) in 2014.
Competing in the Diamond League meeting held at the Olympic Stadium, London on 21st July 2018, Imani Lansiquot (Sutton & District AC) set a new record of 11.11/+0.1. This was an improvement on the previous record of 11.16 set by Andrea Lynch (Mitcham AC) in 1975. SURREY RECORDS FOR SENIOR WOMEN.
