It is with sadness that we report that Martin died peacefully at home on 27th August 2024. He was a supporter of Surrey County Athletics for many years. He was the Surrey U13/U15 Boys Cross-Country Team Manager and had led the way for getting these age groups recognised at County level through organising trips to Shrewsbury which was the initial venue for their "national" championships. He was elected President of SCAA in 2004.
He was an active member of Camberley & District AC and was an acomplished Starter for many years at both Track & Field and Sportshall events.
The following tribute was received from Camberley & District AC:-
Camberley & District AC is greatly saddened to announce that our President, Martin Goodway passed away on 27th August at the age of 86. He had been ill for some time and spent his last few days peacefully at home with his family.
Martin has been a driving force within Camberley & District AC for almost 50 years and was extremely knowledgeable in everything to do with grass roots athletics.
He was also a qualified Starter and many of you will recall seeing Martin starting races across Surrey. He was passionate about giving young athletes the chance to compete across all disciplines and was present at Track & Field, Cross Country and Sportshall events, always smartly attired in his red blazer.
There will be a memorial service held in due course - we will share details when available.
Our thoughts at this time are with his wife Irene and the rest of the family.
We have completed the compilation of the rankings for 2024. We express our thanks to the compilers (Jess Wilson, Ashley Burridge, Marcus Hake, Phil Ryan and Keith Burchell) for their efforts throughout the season to keep the lists up to date.
We apologise to the M55 teams as an error in the results procedure led to the wrong teams being presented with medals. The procedure has been corrected for future events and we are working to get medals to the affected teams as soon as possible.
