(2) SOUTHERN WOMENS INTER-COUNTY CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, NONSUCH PARK, 10TH JANUARY 1970

Surrey had the honour of hosting this event. While the course was very attractive it was without serious challenges in the way of hills and so the finishes were crowded. Our Senior team was without their County Champion who had the flu and finished 5th. The Intermediates were 6th and the Juniors were 3rd. Lesley Cobden (Selsonia LAC) won the Junior Individual title.

(3) WOMENS NATIONAL INTER-COUNTY CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, WESTBURY, 24TH JANUARY 1970

Two full 41-seater coaches and several cars of supporters travelled to Bristol for the first National Inter-County Cross-Country for women. With Bridget Cushen back in the team the Seniors fared much better than they had at the Southern event 2 weeks previously and finished 4th. Our Intermediates finished 8th. Our Juniors were 4th in a race where the encounter between Lesley Cobden (Selsonia LAC) and Mary Stewart of Warwickshire was keenly anticipated. The two swapped the lead several times during the race but Lesley managed to get her shoulder ahead at the tape. It was disappointing to learn on the day that the Girls event was not be an inter-county championship but just an individual race.
