(1) JACK HEYWOOD 1932 - 2015

We have been informed by Herne Hill Harriers of the death on 2nd January 2015 of Jack Heywood Jnr. Jack won Surrey Cross-Country titles as a Youth in 1949 and as a Junior in 1953. He won his first international vest in 1955 when he represented GB against France over 10,000m. Further details available on Herne Hill Harriers website.

(3) WORLD AGE-17 BEST FOR INDOOR PENTATHLON BY MORGAN LAKE

Whilst representing Great Britain & Northern Ireland in the U20/U23 Combined Events International held at Nogent sur Oise, France on 24/25 January 2015, Morgan Lake (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC) set a new world age-17 best of 4448 points beating the previous best held by Carolina Kluft (Sweden). This was a Surrey Indoor Record beating the previous record 4297 points set by Julia Bennett in 1998. Morgan's individual preformances were 60mH: 8.85; HJ: 1.88m; SP: 13.88m; LJ: 6.13m & 800m: 2:25.44.

There was a Senior Combined Events International held in Apeldoorn, Netherlands over the same weekend. Jo Rowland (Crawley AC) finished 6th with 4066 points. Her individual performaces were: 60mH: 9.02; HJ: 1.65m; SP: 13.01m; LJ: 5.69m & 800m: 2:15.83.

(6) KEN NUNN

We are saddened to hear that Ken died on 3rd February following a long illness. He was awarded the Reg Bale Trophy (for Officials) by Surrey County Athletic Association at their March 2013 AGM, in recognition of the outstanding service that he had given to the County as a Field Official over many years.

RESULTS.

(8) NEW SURREY INDOOR RECORD FOR WOMEN'S 1500M

Competing in the Women's Mile at the Melrose Games held in New York on 14th February 2015, Rosie Clarke (Epsom & Ewell H) was officially timed at 1500m with 4:12.18 which improves the previous record of 4:1.:29 set by Charlotte Best (Crawley AC) in 2009. Rosie's finishing time for 1 mile was 4:31.78 which leaves the time of 4:31.24 by Jo White (Mitcham AC) in 1983 as the record for that event.

SW HIGH JUMP 2nd Morgan Lake (WSEH) 1.94m BRITISH JUNIOR RECORD.
SW TRIPLE JUMP 2nd Zainab Cessay (WGEL) 13.12m.
SW 3000M 2nd Emelia Gorecka (AFD) 9:06.27.

(10) SURREY SENIOR MEN INDOOR TRIPLE JUMP RECORD

Currently a student at Iowa University Babatunde Amosu (Croydon Harriers) has twice this year improved upon his previous record of 15.74m set in 2014. He jumped 15.84m on 14th February and then 16.07m on 28th February at the Big 10 Indoor Championships held in Geneva, Ohio, USA.

(11) ENGLAND ATHLETICS U20/U17/U15 INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS, EIS, SHEFFIELD, 28 FEBRUARY / 1 MARCH 2015

Double victory by Sam Talbot (Exeter H) in U17M 60m Hurdles & Long Jump. Victories for Kerri Davidson (Blackheath & Bromley) in U20W Triple Jump; Katy-Ann McDonald (Blackheath & Bromley) in U17W 1500m and Pippa Earley (Kingston & Polytechnic) in U15G Long Jump. Second places were attained by Hope Sarti (Guildford & Godalming) in U20W 60m Hurdles; Sam Mace (Walton) in U15B Shot Putt; Alexandra Shaw (Guildford & Godalming) in U15G 800m and Ore Adamson (Herne Hill) in U15G Long Jump.

(12) CAU INTER-COUNTY CROSS-COUNTRY, COFTON PARK, BIRMINGHAM, 7TH MARCH 2015

Victories for Lily Partridge (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) in Senior Women's race and Phoebe Law (Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers) in the Under-20 Women's race. Team victory for Under-17 Women.

(13) EUROPEAN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS, PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC, 6/8 MARCH 2015

Rosie Clarke (Epsom & Ewell H) - 1500m; Emelia Gorecka (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) - 3000m); Amy Allcock (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) - 4 x 400m Relay and Morgan Lake (Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow AC) - Pentathlon were selected to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland.
Emelia Gorecka set a new Surrey Indoor Record of 9:03.97 when winning Heat 2 of the 3000m. The previous record of 9:05.12 was set by Elle Baker in 2012.
Morgan Lake set a new Surrey Indoor Record of 4527 points when finishing 9th in the Pentathlon setting 2 event PBs in the process. She had set the previous record of 4448 points in January 2015.

(14) ENGLAND ATHLETICS U17/U15 INDOOR COMBINED EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIPS, EIS, SHEFFIELD, 14 / 15 MARCH 2015

Sam Talbot (Exeter H) followed-up his recent victories in the individual events championships (see item below) with a victory in the Under-17 Men's Heptathlon with a score of 4939 points. Pippa Earley (Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers) gained third place in the Under-15 Girl's Pentathlon with her score of 3316 points. As the 2nd placed English competitor Pippa was awarded the Silver medal.

Frances Ratchford was elected as President for the year. Thanks were given to the outgoing President, Margaret Nelson, who received a Past President badge and an engraved salver.

(16) SCAA AGM LEATHERHEAD, 20TH MARCH 2015

The AGM was the occasion when Mick Firth stood down as the Manager for the Surrey Senior & Junior Men's cross-country teams. In recognition of his long service Mick was presented with a tankard.

(17) SURREY BEST TIME FOR HALF-MARATHON SET BY LILY PARTRIDGE

Continuing her strong form in recent cross-country events Lily Partridge (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) set the fastest time ever by a Surrey women for the half-marathon of 70:32 in the Reading Half-Marathon on 23rd March 2015. The event was also the England Championship for which Lily was awarded the winner's medal.

(18) IAAF WORLD CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, GUIYANG, CHINA, 28TH MARCH 2015

Jonny Hay (Aldershot, Farnham & District AC) and Phoebe Law (Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers) were selected to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland in the Senior Men's and Junior Women's races.
Jonny, who was the British Team captain, finished 84th with the team coming 15th. Phoebe was unable to participate due to illness.

(19) SURREY UNDER-17 WOMEN HAMMER RECORD

Competing at the WSEH Open Meeting on 4th April 2015 Sophie Mace (Walton AC) set a new record for the 3kg Hammer Throw of 51.42m. This was an improvement upon the previous record of 50.60m which she set in August 2014.

(20) SURREY SENIOR WOMEN HAMMER RECORD

Competing at the Kingston AC & Polytechnic H Open Throws Meeting on 11th April 2015 Pippa Wingate (Kingston AC & Polytechnic Harriers) set a new record for the 4kg Hammer Throw of 56.23m. This was an improvement upon the previous record of 54.57m set by Christina Bennett (Epsom & Ewell Harriers) in July 2003.
