Frederick John (Jack) Parker died on 20th February 2022. As a pupil at Shene Grammar School he took up sprinting. He then read engineering at Liverpool University where he started hurdling. He became one of Britain's leading hurdlers during the 1950s. He became a leading civil engineer which led him to live abroad for many years. One of his postings was to Hong Kong where he worked on the extension of the runway of Kai Tak airport which opened up the colony to long-distance flights which enabled it to become one of the world's leading finance centres. Although he was a "Saturday only racer" he achieved much success as an athlete. We regret to announce the recent death of John Beer. John represented Dorking St Pauls AC and its successor clubs upto Dorking & Mole Valley AC on the Surrey County committee until recently. He also represented Surrey Athletics on the Surrey County Playing Fields committee. For most of us our memories of John are as a committee member but in his younger days he was a fine cross-country runner.
URGENT NEWS. We have just heard that John Beer's widow Joan passed away in her sleep yesterday, Sunday 3rd April. There will now be a joint funeral at 11.30am on Wednesday 20th April 2022 at Dorking Cemetery, Reigate Road, Dorking. (Limited Parking) and afterwards at the Royal Oak, Chart Lane, Dorking.
(13) SURREY COUNTY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 25TH MARCH 2022
MESSAGE FROM OUR PAST PRESIDENT: 2022 promises to be a really exciting year for Surrey County sport as well as Globally, Nationally and Regionally and reminds us of the power and importance of sport to enrich our lives. Athletes, parents, coaches and officials as you emerge from COVID restrictions; anyone involved in athletics will see that it is your involvement that really does make amazing things happen.
As I finish my enjoyable time as Surrey President, I am looking forward to a busy programme of indoor athletics, cross-country along with a Home Commonwealth Games and summer full of Track & Field events. I hope everyone involved (athletes, coaches, Officials, parents) will continue to start the year strong and go for that ‘PB’ where ever (and whatever) it may be.
I would like to pay tribute to all who create an environment that is inspiring and filled with creative energy. Long may we create pathways to enable young athletes to move through school, club and County athletics to compete for Great Britain as young Will Barnicoat most recently did. We should never doubt that sport has the power to change lives. Let us all continue to try to do everything we can, to extend the advantages that we all know come from playing sport, to every part of Surrey in 2022.

(15) SURREY COUNTY ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 25TH MARCH 2022
Message from our President:-
Spring Full of Hope
Welcome to the 2022 track and field season. As your newly elected President, I am extremely proud to follow in the footsteps of so many of those who have made athletics in Surrey great. As the country re-opens and adapts to the impact of the COVID pandemic, I feel there is much to look forward to. Fittingly, 10 years after Channel 4 and London 2012 showcased the exploits of some of our amazing Paralympic athletes, we will be at the Weir Archer stadium on April 9th to welcome the return of the Surrey Disability Athletics Championships. Athletes, coaches, supporters and spectators will join together to celebrate the beginning of the 2022 track and field season. I wish all our athletes the best for the year ahead - whatever your hopes and dreams. I will enjoy seeing the fruits of a hard winters training and maybe some putting down seasons markers in a year that sees a home Commonwealth Games which will once again include Para Athletics events.
Best wishes to all for the year ahead.
Zara Hyde Peters OBE
