The team of statisticians comprising Sirkka Kirkby, Sarah Pye, Jess Wilson, Ashley Burridge and Keith Burchell have completed their task of producing ranking lists of Surrey athletes in the ten age groups for the standard events. If you think we are missing some performances then please send us an email as soon as possible.
SURREY MASTERS CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS, NONSUCH PARK, 9TH OCTOBER 2021
Please note that some Combined Event scores were revised on 3rd October - this did not affect the finishing positions of the athletes.
In the Combined Events as far as the two counties (Surrey & Sussex) are concerned we are holding 2 separate County Championships plus an Open Event to allow guest competitors to participate. On this website we show the results of the Surrey County Championships events. Power of Ten, however, for national ranking purposes consider there to have been a single joint event. In certain circumstances this can lead to a difference between what we show as the Surrey performances and what Power of Ten show as the joint event performances.
DIANA NORMAN BREAKS WORLD RECORD Diana Norman's (Epsom & Ewell) score in the Masters Women Pentathlon beat the current World Masters W45 Pentathlon record.
THE ATHLETICS MUSEUM - Click here for information regarding a project that all athletic clubs are invited to join.
REQUESTS FOR PAYMENT FROM SURREY ATHLETICS OFFICIALS - We have noticed recent requests for payment of monies in emails which appear to have been sent by an SCAA official. These are not genuine and should be ignored and certainly not replied to. It is not the practice of SCAA officials to request payment from individuals using a Surrey Athletics email address. The Surrey Athletics email addresses have been created to allow the athletics community to communicate with appropriate SCAA officials and are published on our website to facilitate this. Unfortunately, we are not able to stop unauthorised people sending emails that give the impression that they have been sent from an SCAA official. In general, scepticism is a good reaction to any such requests for money.NATIONAL UNION OF TRACK STATISICIANS (NUTS) - NUTS is due to open its athletics archive/museum later this year at Coombe Wood School, Melville Avenue, Croydon CR2 7NY. They are on the lookout for donations and or loans of the following:-
(1) Books; (2) Programmes; (3) Photos; (4) Trophies; (5) Medals; (6) Club Badges & Vests (including clubs that no longer exist); (7) Old or Olympic kit; (8) Unwanted stopwatches (Do not have to work); (9) Documents; (10) Old running shoes, any pre-war would be wonderful. especially Laws, Fosters etc; (11) Other relevant items suitable for display or reference. Should you have any of the above that you would like them to consider, please contact Mike Fleet 020 8647 1341 or email email@example.com. SURREY COUNTY ATHLETICS HISTORICAL INFORMATION - CAN YOU HELP? - Keith Burchell currently holds the archives for the Surrey County AAA and Surrey County WAAA. These are far from being complete. If you have any past information such as programmes, committee minutes, championship results etc that you are thinking of disposing then please contact Keith Burchell. In particular, sets of County Championship results prior to 1980 are sought.
RESPECT TO OUR TEAM MANAGERS
Surrey County Athletic Association does not accept or condone the use of offensive behaviour towards or abuse or bullying of team managers under any circumstances. Team managers are all volunteers and make their decisions on the basis of information available to them. While not everyone is likely to agree with all of their decisions they must respect them and all the hours of work and agonising that go into the difficult task these team managers carry out in the interests of encouraging athletics in the county.
CARDIAC RISK IN THE YOUNG
England Athletics is publicising this charity.
CRY is a charity that was established to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to the sudden cardiac death of young people. They operate a screening programme at a number of clinics around the UK and support this with mobile units that travel to other locations.
Full information about CRY and their services can be found on their website at www.c-r-y.org.uk. Young people between the age of 14 and 35 who would like to have cardiac testing can go to www.testmyheart.org.
You can also see www.uka.org.uk/governance/health-safety/cardiac-screening-for-athletes/ for information on work being done by UKA in this area.
Following the death of a young member of Croydon Harriers, Mike Fleet has been promoting this charity for several years and anyone wishing to have copies of his photographs has been asked to make a donation to CRY. Further, he has been exchanging for donations bookmarks signed by famous athletes to raise funds for this charity. We thank those of you who have shown your support in the past.
