U13 Girls GOLD National Champions!
U15 Girls SILVER
U13 Boys BRONZE
Congratulations to Laura, Fran and Graham and their teams for their amazing results yet again.
Special mention to Graham's boys who did not know they were going until a late call up last week and many reserves had to be called in to complete the team.
Thanks to everyone involved, athletes, parents, club team managers, Surrey officials and all committee members for their continued financial support in this particularly financially challenging season.
We regret to announce the recent death of John Beer. John represented Dorking St Pauls AC and its successor clubs upto Dorking & Mole Valley AC on the Surrey County committee until recently. He also represented Surrey Athletics on the Surrey County Playing Fields committee. For most of us our memories of John are as a committee member but in his younger days he was a fine cross-country runner.
URGENT NEWS. We have just heard that John Beer's widow Joan passed away in her sleep yesterday, Sunday 3rd April. There will now be a joint funeral at 11.30am on Wednesday 20th April 2022 at Dorking Cemetery, Reigate Road, Dorking. (Limited Parking) and afterwards at the Royal Oak, Chart Lane, Dorking.

We congratulate the following Surrey athletes on their selection for the British team:-
FRIDAY 18TH: Cheyanne Evans-Gray was 3rd in Heat 6 of 6 in the 60m. She then set a personal best of 7.19 when finishing 6th in the second (of three) semi-finals. Jessie Knight was initially disqualified in heat 3 of 5 in the 400m but she was been reinstated in 2nd place. She then placed 4th in the second (of two) semi-finals with a season's best of 51.93.
SUNDAY 20TH: Jessie Knight ran the final leg for the British 4x400m team which finished 4th in Heat 1 to qualify for the final. Jessie again ran the final leg in the final where the British team finished 5th.
We are pleased to confirm that we are intending to have a complete schudule of events for this year's Road League. The first event will be the Wimbledon Dash 5k which is being held on 13th March 2022 (NOTE. this event has been held in August in previous years).
UPDATE I have managed to find the results that previously were missing for 1975 - 2001. The above listing of Surrey Team Performances now shows that the Senior Men's victory was the first since 1979 - 43 years ago! The results published in AW for 1999 and 2001 only included the first 3 and first 9 teams respectively hence the team placing for those teams not included are shown with a '?'. If anyone has access to this information then please contact Webmaster.
JOHN PARLETT 1925 - 2022
John Parlett died on 8th March 2022 aged 96. John joined Dorking St. Paul's AC (predecessor club to Dorking & Mole Valley AC) as a schoolboy in 1942. His first major success came in 1943 when he won the Southern Junior Mile title. In 1947 he was 3rd in the AAA 880 yards and then in 1948 & 1949 he won that title. In 1948 he was selected for the Olympic Games where he reached the 800m final and finished 9th. In 1950 he won the European 800m and the Commonwealth 880 yards titles. He was injured in 1952 and announced his retirement the following year.
This coming weekend will see several Surrey athletes attempting to win National Titles and gain selection for the World Indoor Championships to be held in Belgrade, Serbia on 18/20 March.
For the first time on this website we have produced ranking lists for Indoor events. At present we have only done this for the current year but over time we hope to extend this back to previous years. For the purposes of these rankings the current year is the period defined by UKA as the competition year. Therefore, although the year is described as 2022 it actually started on the 1st October 2021. Previously the only County Records that were maintained were for Seniors. Once we have gone back sufficiently in time to get the best performances for age group competitors then we attempt to produce Age Group Records as well.

Welcome to the 2022 track and field season. As your newly elected President, I am extremely proud to follow in the footsteps of so many of those who have made athletics in Surrey great. As the country re-opens and adapts to the impact of the COVID pandemic, I feel there is much to look forward to. Fittingly, 10 years after Channel 4 and London 2012 showcased the exploits of some of our amazing Paralympic athletes, we will be at the Weir Archer stadium on April 9th to welcome the return of the Surrey Disability Athletics Championships. Athletes, coaches, supporters and spectators will join together to celebrate the beginning of the 2022 track and field season. I wish all our athletes the best for the year ahead - whatever your hopes and dreams. I will enjoy seeing the fruits of a hard winters training and maybe some putting down seasons markers in a year that sees a home Commonwealth Games which will once again include Para Athletics events.
Best wishes to all for the year ahead.

BELOW WE SHOW GUIDANCE ISSUED BY ENGLAND ATHLETICS RELATING TO COVID-19:-
REQUESTS FOR PAYMENT FROM SURREY ATHLETICS OFFICIALS
We have noticed recent requests for payment of monies in emails which appear to have been sent by an SCAA official. These are not genuine and should be ignored and certainly not replied to. It is not the practice of SCAA officials to request payment from individuals using a Surrey Athletics email address. The Surrey Athletics email addresses have been created to allow the athletics community to communicate with appropriate SCAA officials and are published on our website to facilitate this. Unfortunately, we are not able to stop unauthorised people sending emails that give the impression that they have been sent from an SCAA official. In general, scepticism is a good reaction to any such requests for money.
NATIONAL UNION OF TRACK STATISICIANS (NUTS)
- NUTS is due to open its athletics archive/museum later this year at Coombe Wood School, Melville Avenue, Croydon CR2 7NY. They are on the lookout for donations and or loans of the following:-

SURREY COUNTY ATHLETICS HISTORICAL INFORMATION - CAN YOU HELP?
Keith Burchell currently holds the archives for the Surrey County AAA and Surrey County WAAA. These are far from being complete. If you have any past information such as programmes, committee minutes, championship results etc that you are thinking of disposing then please contact Keith Burchell. In particular, sets of County Championship results prior to 1980 are sought.
RESPECT TO OUR TEAM MANAGERS
Surrey County Athletic Association does not accept or condone the use of offensive behaviour towards or abuse or bullying of team managers under any circumstances. Team managers are all volunteers and make their decisions on the basis of information available to them. While not everyone is likely to agree with all of their decisions they must respect them and all the hours of work and agonising that go into the difficult task these team managers carry out in the interests of encouraging athletics in the county.
CARDIAC RISK IN THE YOUNG
England Athletics is publicising this charity.
CRY is a charity that was established to raise awareness of conditions that can lead to the sudden cardiac death of young people. They operate a screening programme at a number of clinics around the UK and support this with mobile units that travel to other locations.
Full information about CRY and their services can be found on their website at www.c-r-y.org.uk. Young people between the age of 14 and 35 who would like to have cardiac testing can go to www.testmyheart.org.
You can also see www.uka.org.uk/governance/health-safety/cardiac-screening-for-athletes/ for information on work being done by UKA in this area.
Following the death of a young member of Croydon Harriers, Mike Fleet has been promoting this charity for several years and anyone wishing to have copies of his photographs has been asked to make a donation to CRY. Further, he has been exchanging for donations bookmarks signed by famous athletes to raise funds for this charity. We thank those of you who have shown your support in the past.
Mike Fleet has started an Olympians Charity "Art" project. His request is to Olympic athletes who would be willing to contribute a drawing, sketch or even a "work of art". The target is to obtain 100 items. Currently contributions include matchstick men and women, smiley faces, fine portraits, crayoned landscapes and water colours. Amongst the Surrey contributors are Shirley Cawley, Judy Vernon, Jack Parker and Martyn Rooney with promises from Shireen Bailey and Donna Fraser. Mike has also received pictures from Olympic Gold medallists, David Hemery, Kelly Holmes, Anne Packer and Tessa Sanderson. The plan is for a one-off book of the boldly signed originals to be publicly auctioned, and for the submitted art, to feature in a limited edition book of prints for general sale.
Contributions on A4 duplicating paper should be sent to Mike at 2 Ridge Park, Purley, Surrey, CR8 3PN. Any queries, please call 020 8647 1341.
